Post-Promotion Increase (PPI) Program

The Post-Promotion Increase (PPI) program for 2009-10 is open to full professors, lecturer D faculty, SSP/AR-III faculty, head coaches, and librarians who were hired on the campus on August 1, 1988 or after and who have exhausted their SSI eligibility in their current rank. Funding for this program is pursuant to Article 31.13 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and is not contingent on budget. If a faculty member is eligible to apply for a PPI, they must submit the following materials to their department review committee:

1. A summary (maximum two pages) of accomplishments. While the faculty member may discuss work from any time since their last promotion/ range elevation, they are not required to do so; information from the last three to five years is normally sufficient. While no additional documentation is allowed, all information presented in the summary may be subject to verification.

2. A completed Cover Sheet (see link below). On the cover sheet the faculty member should briefly describe their current work assignment as well as areas which should be evaluated. Faculty member must be evaluated in all areas included in their current work assignment and may choose to be evaluated in additional areas, as applicable.

The summary and cover sheet are due to the elected department committee reviewing PPIs by Thursday, April 16, 2009.

SF State Distinguished Faculty Awards

The Academic Senate of San Francisco State University annually acknowledges outstanding faculty members for their extraordinary, meaningful and lasting contributions in the areas of teaching, professional achievement, and service. Honorees receive a $4,000 stipend (pre-tax) for the Excellence in Professional Achievement award and the Excellence in Service award and a $5,000 stipend (pre-tax) for the Sarlo Excellence in Teaching award, which is sponsored by the Sarlo Foundation. In addition, honorees receive a commemorative plaque and a certificate. The awards are designed to highlight the tremendous accomplishments of these individual faculty members and to showcase a few examples of the consistently exceptional work of the San Francisco State University faculty. The 2008 awardees are:


Sarlo Award for Excellence in Teaching
Martin Linder, Professor of Design and Industry
Excellence in Professional Achievement
Jules Tygiel, Professor of History
Excellence in Service
Genie Stowers, Professor of Public Administration

By recognizing the achievements of our distinguished faculty in the areas of professional achievement, service and teaching, we celebrate the climate of excellence that we create together.
