iLearn
- Getting Started with iLearn
iLearn is an online learning management system (LMS) designed to enhance student learning and collaboration. In this workshop, participants will learn the basics on using iLearn, including making an iLearn course available to students, posting accessible documents and organizing course resources. - Blackboard to iLearn
These workshops will help participants convert existing Blackboard courses to the iLearn environment. Participants are welcome to attend additional workshops from the weeklong series that cover specific topics in a modular fashion (e.g., interactivity, group work, assessment). Contact us at x86906 or workshop@sfsu.edu to see if you qualify for this workshop. - Interactivity I: Forums, Chat & Choice* – 3 hr
Participants will create and facilitate opportunities for interaction using discussion forums, real-time chats and “Choice” (a tool for conducting student polls). Increase student participation and interest by creating forums to discuss current course-related topics, moderate debates or post course announcements. Use the chat module for virtual office hours or conduct a poll using “Choice” to get an overview of students’ opinions on a particular subject...LISTITEM] - Interactivity II: Wikis (Collaborative Web Pages) * – 3 hr
Participants will create and facilitate interaction opportunities using collaborative web pages called “wikis”. Wikis are useful for facilitating group projects, brainstorming and sharing online resources. The workshop includes group authoring techniques and basic wiki markup language. - Assessment I: Quizzes *– 3 hr
Participants will create and facilitate assessment opportunities using quizzes in iLearn. Participants will plan and create graded and non-graded assessments that match the course instructional objectives. The workshop will also cover test construction strategies such as randomizing quiz questions, categorizing pools of questions, and publishing test questions to share with colleagues. - Assessment II: Assignments, Forums, & Gradebook* – 3 hr
Participants will create and facilitate assessment strategies using assignments, and discussion forum ratings, which include expectations for student success. Participants will set up and use the new iLearn gradebook; weight categorized grades; set extra credit points; curve grades; and download the gradebook to use in a spreadsheet program such as Excel. - Manage Group Activities and Projects * – 3 hr
Participants will learn how to create and manage groups of students. The group feature can be used with activities such as Forums, Choice (student polls) and Wikis (collaborative web pages). The Group tool is useful when facilitating group projects or working with large classes.
Instructional Websites and Digital Images
- Intro to Photoshop
This workshop will teach participants how to create and edit digital images for web use (or for use in other digital arenas such as Powerpoint). - Intro to Dreamweaver
This workshop will focus on planning and creating an instructional website with Dreamweaver. - Dreamweaver: Templates
This workshop will focus on using the Template functionality in Dreamweaver to create a consistent look and feel on your website. [Prerequisite: Intro to Dreamweaver] - Dreamweaver: Intro to CSS
This workshop will introduce participants to Cascading Stylesheets (CSS) as a way of creating consistent, accessible webpages and reducing maintenance time. [Prerequisite: Intro to Dreamweaver] - Dreamweaver: Advanced CSS
This workshop will cover the more advanced aspects of CSS including positioning and CSS-based layout design. [Prerequisite: Intro to HTML or equivalent experience hand-coding HTML] - Intro to HTML
Participants will spend time learning how HTML works and how to create and fix problems in your webpage through direct interaction with the HTML code.
