How to Apply

Admission to the Presidential Scholars Program is based on academic and personal achievement, extracurricular contributions to your school and community, leadership potential, and the ability to express yourself effectively. Candidates will meet the following requirements:

  • You must be a California resident graduating from high school by June of the year you plan to enroll at SFSU.
  • You should have a high-school grade point average of at least 3.8 and a combined SAT of at least 1150 — critical reading and math only (verification required).
  • You must apply to SFSU as a first-time freshman before applying for the Presidential Scholars Program

Participation in the Presidential Scholars Program is renewable for eight semesters, if eligibility requirements are met. If you are admitted to the University as a member of the program, you will be expected to complete at least 24 units per year (the equivalent of full-time progress toward your degree), taking at least 21 units annually for a grade rather than on a credit/no-credit basis. You must maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.25, and will also be expected to participate in the required activities scheduled for the Scholars, including the orientation, seminar, meetings, and special events.
